It’s Royal Rumble week everyone! WWE’s
annual Don’t Touch The Floor, It’s Made
Of Lava contest is one of the most exciting
times in the year for a wrestling fan… until
the far superior Greatest Royal Rumble comes
round in April, of course, from the BEAUTIFUL
CITY OF JEDD-.
Part of this is down to the surprise wrestling
cameos from WWE’s past. There’s rumours
as big as Batista and Rock ‘The Dwayne’
Johnson appearing in this Sunday’s Rumble,
but one other huge star has sadly ruled himself
Carlito, who spits in the faces of those who
want him to return.
“For those of you that still ask every year
if I’m going to be in the Royal Rumble.
I’ll put it to you like this. http://WWE.com
still won’t put me on their alumni page.
I hope this clears things up for you😂😂”]
Which is exactly something someone making
a surprise entrance at the Royal Rumble would
say… CM Punk return confirmed!
Someone else who won’t be featuring in this
Sunday’s match is John Cena. 3… 2… 1…
On the 7th January episode of Raw, Cena surprised
many by announcing he’ll be entering the
Royal Rumble match. Surprising because he
said in interviews just the week previously
that he’ll be shooting a movie when it’s
Joining WWE’s rich tradition of promoting
matches they have absolutely zero intention
of actually delivering – like Braun Strowman
vs Brock Lesnar and Alexa Bliss vs Trish Stratus
– it appears Cena was never planned to be
on the show.
WWE.com revealed shortly before Monday’s
Raw that Cena had injured his left ankle during
the previous week’s Fatal 4-Way main event,
while McIntyre had him in an ankle lock, which
he continued to sell after the show went off
Confirming Laurie’s speculation in yesterday’s
News, the Wrestling Observer are reporting
that Cena’s injury is in fact a work, and
appears to just be a way to write John out
of this Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view
and the next month so he can shoot his movie.
Dave Meltzer speculates that the original
plan was possibly for a debuting Lars Sullivan
to injure Cena, setting up their reported
WrestleMania 35 match. But potentially because
of Lars supposedly suffering an anxiety attack
backstage, the angle was scrapped.
With Lars being one of the New Era’s six
NXT call-ups, WWE are preparing to recruit
their next class of wrestlers for the Performance
Corroborating reports and rumours over the
last few months, Wrestling Inc claim the new
signees will include former IMPACT X-Division
champion Trevor Lee, former TNA Gut Check
winner Sam Shaw, Rachael Ellering, the daughter
of WWE Hall of Famer Paul Ellering, Mae Young
Classic 2018 competitor Karen Q, Canadian
tag team 3.0, standout Australian wrestlers
Jonah Rock and Elliot Sexton, the 6 ft 3,
275 pound Nick Comoroto and former ROH and
New Japan star ACH.
