And we’re not the only people bringing old
concepts back…
WCW Show Returning To WWE
Last night, NXT taped all of their television
up until the next TakeOver special on November
18th – the night before Survivor Series 2017.
Meaning the next story is about footage not
yet aired, so prepare to enter the Spoiler
Room Brawl in 3…
2…
1…
The show’s NXT Championship match was made,
with Andrade Cien Almas becoming Drew McIntyre’s
No. 1 contender.
Aleister Black vs the Velveteen Dream and
Lars Sullivan vs Kassius Ohno will take place
as grudge matches.
And the Fatal Four Way for the NXT Women’s
Championship – which was vacated by Asuka
last month – will be between Mae Young Classic
winner Kairi Sane, Peyton Roce, Ember Moon
and Nikki Cross.
But the most intriguing announcement was the
stipulation added to the three team three-way
match between Undisputed, Sanity and Authors
of Pain with Roderick Strong.
At the tapings, the Authors of Pain’s tag
team title rematch against Sanity ended in
DQ when Adam Cole, Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly
ran in for a beat down.
It was then that Strong teased aligning himself
with the group – as a fellow Ring of Honor
alumni himself – but he turned on them instead.
William Regal then announced each three-man
unit would face off in…a War Games match.
Yeah, that War Games – the old WCW concept
which had two rings alongside each other encased
in one giant cage, and a new member of each
team enters every two minutes.
It took about ten minutes of going through
the various rules before the match could ever
get started.
To my knowledge – and by that, I mean Wikipedia’s
– this will be the 31st War Games match in
history, and the first ever to be a three
vs three vs three, rather than the traditional
five-on-five.
In a bonus trivia note, Paul Ellering competed
in the first two War Games matches, and he’ll
be managing the Authors of Pain in the first
one for nearly two decades next month.
And in true spoiler fashion, Triple H publicly
announced the news on Twitter:
“For the first time in nearly 20 years…
#NXTTakeOver: WarGames”
Pro Wrestling Sheet reported last month that
WWE were considering bringing back a few WCW
event names, which seemed to be a way to boost
dwindling live event ticket sales.
Because remember that time with the nostalgia?
But when WWE announced they’re using the
Starrcade name (which was WCW’s version
of WrestleMania) for a special Smackdown live
event in North Carolina, former WWE wrestler
and current Ring of Honor champion Cody Rhodes
wasn’t best pleased, tweeting:
“Dear @MichaelPSHayes1 If you’re afraid
an event won’t sell cuz’ the holiday and want
one of my Dad’s events…at least book Goldy..
-Cody”
Both Starrcade and War Games were events dreamed
up by Cody’s late father Dusty Rhodes, but
the American Nightmare has tweeted his blessing
for his former employer’s latest use of
his dad’s ideas:
“I’m not mad.
I was told.
H worked for my Dad and then my Dad worked
for him.
They were friends.
Care and effort will be placed into it.”
While Triple H surely will treat Dusty’s
baby with respect, he had to abandon his own
last night – as he’s visiting India on business
ahead of WWE’s December tour there.
“Gutted to miss my first @WWENXT taping
ever while in @WWEIndia but I have the best
team in the world doing it…Have a hell of
a show!”
And by ‘the best team in the world’, Triple
H of course meant ‘DX’.
“Don’t worry, H, @ShawnMichaels and I are
holding the fort down!
@WWENXT @TripleH #OUDK,” tweeted former
DX member and current Smackdown LIVE producer
Road Dogg.
Just as a peak behind the curtain of the WrestleTalk
News, this War Games story has so far taken
me twice as long to write as normal, because
I keep watching bits of the 1992 match between
Sting’s Squadron and Paul Heyman’s Dangerous
Alliance.
If you’re not familiar with the War Games
concept, check that match out, as it really
is a masterpiece of storytelling.
Is Bray Wyatt really going to be playing Sister
Abigail himself?
And where the hell are the fashion police?

  1. I don't understand what the point is of bringing back the "Starrcade" name. It was just the WCW WrestleMania, right? And, in fact, it was BEFORE the first WrestleMania (1983)! So to bring it back as some sort of "alternate" WrestleMania would be absurd. Is the name itself supposed to count for anything? Will it be held inside a 1980s/'90s time warp with blond mullets, painted-face swirls, and polka dots everywhere?

  2. Ollie I hate to be that guy but you were wrong when you said that this would be the first War games match to feature 3 teams. The 1998 version featured 3 teams it was Team WCW vs Team Hollywood vs Team Wolfpac.

  3. DO Smackdown live WCW INTRO edition SPECIAL EPISODE like blast from past did
RAW ECW EDITION SPECIAL EPISODE LIKE OLD SCHOOL RAW DID

  4. Somewhere along the line, they should really make a storyline feud between Shane and HHH about who will take over WWE.

  5. careful oli people get there pitchforks out if you try to make money… I don't mind so much … 50 secs is a bit much but… yea love the channel please be safe with all the trolls on the Internet highway

  6. Would it make more sense to rebrand Smackdown as WCW? Revamp the battle between WCW/WWE? Fans seem disinterested in Raw now a days and Smackdown is under utilizing big names.

  7. Michael’s Madness

I'd like to be in a Three Way with Asuka and Kairi Sane…….And I'm not talking about the match ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  8. People need to move on, we'll never see a return of the AE or the RA era it's as simple as that. WWE is shit and will never be back the way it was.

  9. Goldust wwe championship run?… 🤔anybody would n interested in🤔 the failed cash in would have looked better if goldust perform it

  10. IM SO GLAD I AINT ONE OF THOSE SADDOS THAT HAS DONATED MONEY TO THIS CHANNEL BECAUSE I CAN WATCH ANY VIDEO AND WRITE ANY SHITTY COMMENT I LIKE AND NOT PAY A PENNY.ALSO I LOVE THE CRINGY" I SOLD MY SOUL TO THE DEVIL AND LOST ALL SELF WORTH AND ANY SHRED OF RESPECT ADVERTS OLI DOES FOR WHATEVER THAT APP IS" OH SUCH A SHAME THAT U GUYS HAVE CHANGED.OH WELL.DONT GIVE ME THAT"OH WEVE GOT TO EVOLVE TO PROCEED CRAP EITHER"

  11. I HATE YOUR FROCKING COMMERCIAL AT THE BEGINNING GOING FOR 1 MIN + ON TOP OF THE YOUTUBE AD….. COME ON GUYS !!!!!!! I HOPE IT'S FOR A RAZOR FOR LUKE OWENS

  12. Starrcade wasn't WCW's version of WrestleMania, Starrcade came BEFORE WrestleMania … Vince got the concept for Mania from Starrcade.

Watch the 87, 89 and 91 War Games matches, they were the better ones.

  13. Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly stable should not be call “The Undisputed Era” but the K.O.D “The Kings of Dishonor” referencing to their time in Ring of Honor

  14. I was born after WCW was bought by WWE and I wasn’t a wrestling fan until when I was in like the 4th grade I’m 16 now but I’ve been told many stories by my dad about how great it was to watch WCW Monday Nitro I wish I would’ve been able to see it and I hope one day either WWE brings back Nitro or they sell it to someone else who will bring back WCW Monday nitro I’d love that

  15. I think it would be awesome if Vince brought back the WCW with a concept where they have their own roster, own separate story lines, their old TV shows (Nitro and Thunder), and old pay per views (Starrcade, Halloween Havoc, etc..) which allows the two brands to compete for ratings again but where the WCW champions meet the WWE champions once a year at the Clash of the Champions pay per view to determine the Universal champion which would literally be like the Superbowl of professional wrestling.

  16. Derrick La Saga

Bring back WCW as it's own company. Just like it was in the 90s. WWE hosting WCW shows does not capture my interest.
